Your CGOA invites you to volunteer for the annual Ward 8 turkey giveaway. We're looking for Coast Guard officers to help with this event on Monday, November 23. Volunteers will help offload about 3000 frozen turkeys. Start time is still TBD but probably at 0630 or 0700. It will take most of the morning. The location is Malcolm X Elementary School in Anacostia. Uniform is NOT authorized, but CG spirit clothing is definitely welcome. Recommended attire is outdoor civilian work clothes, e.g. jeans, work shirt, sturdy shoes and work gloves.  Dressing in layers is highly recommended!

What is involved: We will unload frozen turkeys from the delivery truck and pass them from person to person to the staging area where they are prepared for giving away. There are normally 2 turkeys per box, and each turkey weighs 18 lbs or so. It is a good workout and a good opportunity to network with other officers while volunteering in the community. We will not be involved in handing out turkeys... only offloading the truck and taking the turkeys to the staging area.

If you have any questions, feel free to contact CDR Monique Roebuck at Monique.M.Roebuck@uscg.mil. She will send more detailed information to registered volunteers as we get closer to the event.

This volunteer opportunity is in DC's Ward 8 (Anacostia) near CGHQ.

Have a great day!
