Ward 8 Thanksgiving Turkey Giveaway

The Ward 8 turkey give away will be Tuesday, November 25. We need strong, energetic CG volunteers (you) to help offload about 3000 frozen turkeys. Start time is on or about 0700. This event will take most of the morning. The location is at Union Temple Baptist Church in Anacostia. Uniform is outdoor civilian work attire (e.g. Jeans, long sleeve shirt, work boots or sturdy shoes and work gloves). ODU is not authorized.

What is involved: We will form a long chain of personnel from the truck down into the church basement and then pass boxes of turkeys from person to person to get them to their destination inside the basement. There are 2 turkeys per box, and each turkey weighs 18 lbs or so. It is hard work that is made light by our awesome ability to function as a team.  You will come away with a good workout and feeling rewarded for being part of this.

A little about the give-away: Congress Heights Main Streets is a non-profit organization that purchases turkeys every year for residents of Ward 8. Council member Marion Barry gives them to the residents.

More details will be sent to registered volunteers as we get closer to the event.
